Low-income Working Family Allowance Scheme

The Government launched the Low-income Working Family Allowance (LIFA) Scheme in May 2016, which supports the low-income working families, particularly those with children, with a view to encouraging employment and self-reliance, as well as easing inter-generational poverty.

Under the Scheme, a family of two or more members meeting the income and asset limits and the applicant meeting the working hour requirements may apply for a Basic Allowance (Full-rate $600 per month or Half-rate $300 per month); if the applicant works more hours, the family may apply for a Higher Allowance (Full-rate $1,000 per month or Half-rate $500 per month).  Each eligible child in an eligible LIFA-family may also receive a Child Allowance (Full-rate $800 per month per child or Half-rate $400 per month per child).  The eligible family may submit an application anytime and the claim period is the past calendar months.

For details of the Scheme, please refer to the attached leaflet and poster, or visit the LIFA website

The LIFA Scheme is implemented by the Working Family Allowance Office of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency.
