HK Major Transport Infrastructure Development Blueprint and related tender information
Author: Dutch Chamber of Commerce
Our chair Frery Winkel was present at last Tuesday's IBC Meeting, hosted by Financial Secretary Paul Chan.
One of the topics discussed was how to get more visibility on the various business opportunities arising from government works, especially those in relation to the Northern Metropolis and other major infrastructure works.
The Financial Secretary mentioned an investment of HKD90bn in infrastructure spending every year in the past few years, and this is set to be maintained at around HKD100bn per year in the coming few years, some of which will be financed by bonds.
Very few developed economies in the world have this kind of budget for greenfield development, so this offers exciting opportunities for strong (but not necessarily large) companies. This is the continuation of a long running trend driven by the solid infrastructure investments planned by the HK Government and our partner InvestHK stands ready to assist any business in expanding their presence in Hong Kong to explore and tap into these opportunities.
A recent article in the SCMP talked bout some engineering- and other infrastructure-related businesses moving to Hong Kong or expanding their presence here to gain better visibility and better prepare themselves to capture these opportunities.
