Hong Kong SME relief and funding schemes

Hong Kong's economy has been hit hard by the social unrest and now in particularly by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Especially our SME and Start-ups having challenging times due to this global crisis. 

For SME’s in Hong Kong there are multiple schemes in place to help them out during these challenging times. 

Relief specific Schemes

Besides normal funding schemes that are in place for Hong Kong SME’s and Start-ups, Hong Kong has multiple additional schemes announced. Many are existing schemes but with funding ceilings increased, requirements adjusted and the application process is now available online.  

1. 100% Loan Guarantee under the SME Financing Guarantee Scheme

HKMCI introduced special 100% Loan Guarantee under the SME Financing Guarantee Scheme.

2. Support Measures relating to Liquidity of SMEs

For SME’s with liquidity issues.

3. Food Licence Holders Subsidy Scheme

The Food Licence Holders Subsidy Scheme aims to provide financial relief to eight types of food business licence holders. A one-off subsidy of $200,000 will be provided to eligible licence holders of the premises in operation including general restaurants, marine restaurants and factory canteens; and a subsidy of $80,000 will be provided to eligible licence holders of the premises in operation including light refreshment restaurants, fresh provision shops, food factories, bakeries and siu mei and lo mei shops.

5. Proposals on relief measures

  • Job retention, job creation and job advancement schemes,
  • Providing relief to hard-hit sectors,  
  • Proposals on easing the cash flow and burden of businesses and individuals,
  • Other relief through Government facilitation.
